It is understandable that the main target of some advertisements nowadays is to convince young children to purchase more food and entertaining products. While parents are making strong protest due to its drawbacks, I am in favor of advertisers' opinion that those promotions are rather educational.
On the one hand, there are compelling reasons why adults tend to disapprove of this trend. To begin with, these ads make kids absurdly require things that they are not actually in need of. For example, if a pupil notices that his folks are having a cool Superman action figure, he will crave one himself as a result of peer pressure, no matter how expensive it can be. Secondly, when it comes to food promotions impacts, children are inclined to buy unhealthy snacks instead of nourishing meals. Advertisements, particularly on TV with visual and sound support, make a strong impression that fast food is delicious. However, these kinds of food are highly fattening and contain excessive amounts of carbohydrate. Consistent consumption of quick snacks will eventually lead to obesity.
On the other hand, I would agree with commercial makers that advertisements have undeniable educational purposes. First of all, it is common that food products commercials are often accompanied by the image of a happy family sitting closely to enjoy the food altogether. It teaches younger generations how to get along with other members and appreciate the joy of family gathering. In addition to that, some ads convey a vast knowledge of different aspects. For instance, advertisers of food or beverages like to persuade customers to buy their products because they contain a wide range of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and fiber. As a result, children become more aware that their body needs nutritional supplements to be physically healthy.
In conclusion, while moms and dads object advertising’s psychological manipulation of their children, I am in favor of advertisement makers’ opinion that commercials are informational.
