In short?
I want to know whether the 'in sort' is used appropriately in the text below.
Recently the number of women entering professional fields has steadily been increasing. For example, in 1995 there were more women working as pharmacists and elementary school teachers than men. (On the other hand) less than 50 years ago there were almost no women lawyers, but in 1995 they made up about 7% of all the lawyers in Japan. I think there are two main reasons for these changes. First of all, Japanese women now have access to better education than in the past. Secondly, society's view on the role of women in the workplace has been changing. (In short), even thought up until now the number of women in professional positions has been limited, I believe that the situation will continue to improve int he future.

Two discourse markers in parentheses don't sound right to me.
With 'on the other hand' both topics before and after it are the same thing (more women working). Can you use this phrase here?
With 'in short' I don't think the information that follows summarize the information before.

Before I forget, “even thought” should be “even though”. The first marker is correct, there is a difference between the statements that precede “on the other hand”. The second, “in short”, is both a summary and an attempt to start being more brief, more to the point.
