in school, in work ???

Hi there,

For my whole life I've thought (and I still do) that we say at work, at school, at home instead of in work, in school, in home but recently I've come across exactly such phrases... Can someone explain it to me?

Thanks,
Best wishes,

I can hardly recall those sentences... but I remember that I've heard a native speaker (US) who said (or HAS said???) something like: How are things in (your) work.

Hi,
People can say many things, often carelessly, and prepositions tend to be very fluid. That doesn't mean there are aren't certain set phrases that tend to be said a lot. Like 'at work'.
