In regard to set

The following quotation is taken from oxford dictionary:
[transitive] set something (+ adv./prep.) toprepare or arrange something so that it is readyfor use or in position

? She set the camera on automatic.


I want to know why an adj."automatic "can follow a preposition "on"?

Can I say these orders have been set on ready/ pending, or these orders have been set to be ready/ pending?
