I don't understand this sentence.

"When students are taught how to recognize mistakes in reasoning, most students see those mistakes principally in the reasoning they already disapprove of rather than in their own reasoning."

Hi Dela This is what I think. Say the argument is on whether capital punishment should be abolished. Students who argue in the negative might only scrutinise their opponents' reasoning, of which they already disapprove, for fallacies, instead of sparing time to look into their own reasoning, which might serve them better.
