In or On a thread

Could you tell me how to properly say this whole sentence please?

1 In the event that a thread gets to long, should I opt to start a different thread or continue posting question in/on the same thread?

Thank you

Looks pretty good, but I would change just a few things. In the event that a thread gets too long, should I opt to start a different thread or continue posting answers on the same thread. The term word "too" is used when something is used in excess.
