in or on

I am not able to change the sentence except for the word IN or ON.  I need to know if IN will work or not.  Also, is the comma okay after the word again?

This 60-year-old woman was seen by me in the emergency room in the evening of June 5, 2012, and again, in the morning of June 6.

This 60-year-old woman was seen by me in the emergency room on the evening of June 5, 2012, and again, on the morning of June 6.

Mister MicawberUse 'on'.
I agree. And may I add my own question?
What if you put "late" so that the sentence would be like: This 60-year-old woman was seen by me in the emergency room late in/on the evening of June 5, 2012...?
Is it still 'on' or should it be 'in' this time?

'Late in the morning/evening' sounds much more usual to me, but 'on' does not sound impossible.

Thanks.
On a side note, it seems to me that one can memorize all the rules about the English grammar and still ends up playing a hunch to get the grammar right.

In a way, yes. The 'rules' are just guidelines; there always seem to be exceptions.
