'In' or 'from'?

Which preposition should I use?

We’ve learned the meaning of ‘luxury’ (in/from) social sciences or maybe in economics and taxation. I’ve just asked a lot of people at the University of Tokyo what’s considered luxury.

So, the revision would be as follows?

We’ve learned the meaning of ‘luxury’ from social sciences or maybe from economics and taxation.

Is it OK if I omit the expression maybe from?

Depends on what you mean. If you leave the maybe, you're saying you're less sure.
