In or at?

To put the mark ? next to a sentence is called to x the sentence out. ?

There seemed to be no way for me to have xed the above out using my keyboard! So I marked the above with an X. I could have crossed it out using a line though! But if I had crossed it out by using an X instead, I could have still be said to be have crossed it out. I hope I am right.
