In my behalf/ on my behalf?

When I recently sent a letter to court, to be used as my testimony for an issue that concerned my brother, I ended the letter with something like, "Thank you for allowing me to send this letter, on my behalf." When I wrote that, I did not mean that the testimony was to be used for MY benefit, but rather my BROTHER'S benefit, instead of my personal appearance in court.

My questiong is.... did I use the term correctly? Or, should I have used a different term?

Thank you.

  • No, it made it sound like the letter was intended to help you.
  • Nevertheless, I'm sure what you said in the letter made it clear that you were trying to help your brother .
