In the past, the patterns of a family have greatly diversified with many members in the same house. From my perspective, there were both benefits and drawbacks of being part of a large family.
I believe that if people had a extended family, generations in a roof might support and assist each other to do necessary activities. For example, when young people had difficulties in their life, grandparents could offer good advice and precious experiences for them to overcome challenges, which would equip them with a more well-rounded perspective of life. Besides, the children from big families might develop essential skills, such as communication, responsibility and interaction for their later lives when they play with others in the same house.
On the other hand, I also agree that living in a large family could lead to some disadvantages. Firstly, the parents who were breadwinners might bear the financial burden. They had to assume responsibility as a stay-at-home parent to take care of the childen, grandparents and housework, which could result in not covering basic needs such as food, accommodation, education and medical services. In addition, parents might not pay much attention to their individual children. This could bring negative effects on children's mental and physical health
In conclusion, there were undeniable advantages and adverse impacts of being members of a big family.
