In many countries today, people in cities either live alone or in small family units, rather than in large family groups. Is this a positive or negative trend?

At the present days, those who are urban dwellers in majority of nations tend either live alone or in a nuclear families. From my own experience, I do believe that this phenomenon has pons and cons.

On the one hand, this trend of living in urban areas has been made a substancial contribution to the development of economic. Firstly, It is understanderable that the migration of people from rural to uban areas has resulted in increasing demand for owning and renting houses and apartment. The housing stocks could be inadequate to cope with this trend, so it is benefical for property developers to take advantage of population shifts, in which erecting more houses, renting apartments and rasing house price. This trend not only brings profits for businessman but also provides enough number of accommodation for individuals and smalls family.

On the other hand, there is also a negative impact on the family bonding. With a mass of exodus, which means the ties of kinship is broken up as the extended families no longer live together. Therefore family gathering is rarely taken place which is a cause of feeling alone and isolated and having a sense of alienation. In addition, in term of finance, if people live alone or in a small families, they have to spend the whole expensive costs of living. Compared to living in rural, they could be shared the costs and houseworks with other family memmbers living in the same roof.

In conclusion, from my own perspective, I do believe that this trend of people migrating from rural to urban have equall consequences to both social and family reasons.
