In many countries, children are becoming overweight and unhealthy. Some people think that the government should have the responsibility. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from...

It is true that in the most part of the world, overweightness and unhealthiness are children's main problems. It is universally believed that the authorities are responsible for this phenomenon. While this maybe valid to a certain extent, I would content that there are more feasible solution, such as education.

The notion that some people advocate that governments should have the responsibility are largely justifiable. The key rationale in favor of this view is that governments take in charge in building sport amenities, which means it can encourage children to go to the gym more often and mitigate the risk of being obesity, diabetes and even heart attack. However, this thinking is flawed, since the chief problem do not stem from the lack of infrastructures but from the inner attitude of children. For instance, despite of the fact that children usually subscribe to be a membership of the gym, but many of them after a few days give up exercising out of laziness.

Instead of the aforementioned approach, I would side with the view that education is more effective in the long run. This is because when children are aware of their poor health, they would eventually adopt a healthy life style, for example by eating more vegetables or exercise more often. My brother perfectly exemplifies this situation. After recognizing how overweight and unhealthy he was, he decided to work out more and abstained from unhealthy food. His success derives from a change of mindset rather than the access to sport facilities.
