in line with

I don't know if I can use the term in line with this way. How can I use it and how can I write the sentence?

The unemployed have trouble talking about themselves because they aren't in line with most of the people that work.

Thanks in advance

Top answer

"in line with" sounds wrong to me there. I would just say The unemployed have trouble talking about themselves because they think that most of the people that work won't/wouldn't understand them.
