IN LIEU OF

Could you please tell me if this sentence is grammatical and natural?

Can you say "in lieu" and use "replacement bus" like this?

- There is a replacement bus running in lieu of the subway that is down today.

Thank you

Hi I too feel the word 'replacement' somewhat odd. In our place the word 'special' is generally used in this context. I think 'in lieu' is ok here.
