'In his hand' or 'at hand'?

Which expression in the parenthesis should I use?

With marijuana (in his hand, at hand), he walked home and got some sleep.

Another question: Is walked properly used in the sentence? If not, what word can I substitute for it? Please help me. Thank you.

My attempt: * With marijuana in his hand * walked is OK, but you may want to add something like this for effect: With maijuana in his hand, Frank walked as carefully as he could. Tom

Is saying With marijuana in his hand, he walked home as carefully as he could also effective?

Assuming it is illegal, wouldn't he carry it in his pocket?
