Hello! Can anybody explain what does the writer mean by "in his colors" in the following sentence. I found it in Henderson the Rain King by Saul Bellow. Thank you for your reply.
From my fatigued eyes I could not help looking at him grudgingly (thus becoming actually guilty of the passion he had seen in me), in his colors surrounded by cherishing attention.
