In future or in the future

Hello,

1. I hope you'll keep responding to my opinions in future as well.
2. I hope you'll keep responding to my opinions in the future as well.

I read sentence #1 above in this forum said by one of the teachers here. I was wondering if it's correct, is it?

Isn't "in the future" is more natural than "in future"?
What's the difference in meaning between these phrases?

If you could, please help me understand. Thank you.

To me, there is a slight difference in nuance. "in future" tends to mean "on all future occasions, starting from now", while "in the future" tends to mean "one one or more specific future occasions". In this sentence I personally would have said "in the future", but different speakers may vary in their usage.

  • Contrast "I'm going to work harder in future", which means I'll start doing that as a regular habit.

Thank you, Mr Wordy. I now see the slight difference between them.

If I've understood completely, I believe his working harder starts from now onwards and happens on a regular basis.

I hope I got the right idea.
