What is the difference between in the mirror and in front of the mirror?

1. She titivated her hair in the mirror
2. She was pinning her hair up in front of the mirror

I've never heard the verb "titivate."
You can say: "She looked at herself in the mirror," but not "she was combing her hair in the mirror."

#2 is perfectly OK.
