Hi.

Which of the perpositions is correct or used more widely in the following context?

"I was doing my homework in front of/Before the TV, so I made many mistakes."

So both forms are possible but before is too formal.

Does the same rule go for fire?

I was standing before/ in fornt of the fire.

Yes. You can say "before the fire". It is grammatical. But if you lived here in California, you would certainly say "in front of the fire".

I believe I only use "before (someone / something)" when speaking of an authority figure or something particula
