In / for

Hi teachers,

I haven't talked to you in / for a while. For is for a period of time. In also indicates a period. Which one should I use?

Thank you.

Both are used, but each has a slightly differently effect. To my ears, ,"for" sounds more idiomatic, although "in" also works in this context. As for " in a while", I will be home in a little while = I will be home shortly.
