in favor of one's intuition

I found the following sentence on the Internet.

> He received his mother's advice in favor of his intuition.

Does it mean "his mother advised him to follow his intuition" ?

Or "he followed his intuition and asked his mother for advice" ?

Or neither of my interpretations are correct ?

Thank you in advance.
