Could you tell me how to properly say this sentence please?

The length of one's voicemail message they leave is in direct proportion to the length of their phone call if you were to answer their call. (One who leaves a short message wouldn't speak very much if you answered them and one who leaves a long message will talk forever if you answered the phone.)
