In dire need of OR In dire need for

I was being my usual dramatic self and I tweeted "I'm in dire need for a pep talk". That made me think if I'm using the phrase right.

Is it "in dire need of" or "in dire need for"? Is there a difference?

I've never heard "dire need for" stick with "dire need of."
