In despair

How should I include the word "despair" in this sentence? Which of the suggestions are possible?

1) In deep despair, Colin paced around on the roof of his apartment building.

2) Colin paced around on the roof of his apartment building in deep despair.

3) Coling paced around on the roof of his apartment building despairfully.
