In Deficit

According to this dictionary, the following:

"Wheat is in surplus"

means there is a lot of wheat.

Could I write:

"Wheat is in deficit"

to mean there is not enough wheat?

emacer.......According to this dictionary, the following: "Wheat is in surplus." means there is a lot of wheat. It means that there is more wheat than is needed. Could I write "Wheat is in deficit." You could say that, but without any special context it is much more natural yo say 'There is a shortage of wheat.' to me
