In day vs at night?

I always have this question in my mind.

If someone asks, what are the weather conditions there?
other answers, It's hot in day and cool at night.

My question is why at night and in day why not

in day and in night or,
at day and at night.

Expecting right answers

Thanks.

in day is not correct. I would say, It's hot during the day and cool at night. English is maddeningly inconsistent at times, isn't it?

Hi Hurry,

It's always a welcome courtesy to ask for help with a "please", and please don't close a thread with "Expecting right answers". It's won't win any points and fankly, the sound of that strikes me as something quite arrogant and impolit

Yes it is! Emotion: smile Thanks!

How can I decide which article should be used? Yes, during day sounds better and right.

I am afraid there isn't an absolutely clean-cut and easy method to use as a guide for using articles. Let's have another example for comparison. It's like saying "I wish the rain will just go away. It's been raining the entire month!".

The context tells us, the rainy and the wet weather in discussion have been ongoing for 30 days. "The rain" is defined.

Learn groups of words instead of just single words. Be prepared to find that sometimes there are patterns and sometimes there are not.

during the day

in the morning

in the afternoon

in the evening

at night

on Monday

in June
