"in case" in a sentence - tenses

Hello!

I'm confused about the usage of "in case" in a sentence.

For instance, I know that when talking about something in the future we use present tense.
ex. I'll take my umbrella in case it rains.

Although I've been told that there also can exist sentences like these below.

1. I'm going to see my doctor in case I had cancer. [I've been told that we use past tense after "in case" when referring to something that might be the case now]

2. I'll call her today in case James had told her something mean yesterday. [I've been told that we use past perfect tense after "in case" when referring to something that might've happened in the past]

3. I'll remind him of your birthday in case he has forgotten.

These three examples really confuse me. I don't really know if they're correctly written.

Thank you in advance!
