In case

Hi,

Can we use 'in case' instead of 'if'? Merriam gives that option. Jesus is true in case the Bible is true. Can we use in case to present such inference?

Thanks,

To my ear, "in case" is sort of an idiom, and always has the sense of a prophylactic. Take your umbrella in case it rains. If I had to use "case" in your example, I'd have to add some words: Jesus is true in the case/event that the Bible is true.
