Grammar

In between

Hi Masters,

There was X, Y, and Z in between.

Is it okay to use 'in between' toward the end of sentence to mean that Z was between X and Y?

Thank you.

Yes, I suppose so. I see nothing wrong with the grammar, but it is not so clear. Perhaps in a more real utterance it would seem better: On the sofa were Cousin Bill and Cousin Jake, with little Sarah in between.

  • I think you need 'and' and 'with'.

Thanks so much, MM. That was very well constructed. I never thought of it that way!
