In an article I wrote

Is this sentence correct:

1-He depicts me as an apologist for a tyrannical system in an article I wrote five years ago.

Meaning: He claims that in an article I wrote five years ago I made an apology for a tyrannical system.

It doesn't read properly to me. "in an article" is naturally associated with "he depicts", but this interpretation goes wrong at "I wrote". By the way, an "apologist" is more often someone who argues in the defence of something rather than makes an apology in the usual sense.
