In all my life/all my life

I was in India last month. The Taj Mahal is incredible. I've never seen anything like it in all my life.

Source: "English Vocabulary Organizer" by Chris Gough.

I am really confused about phrases such as "in all my life", "all my life", "all of my life".
Could you explain why the writer used "in all my life" instead of other phrases mentioned above.
Thanks.

In is the most common preposition used to refer to a lengthy period of time. I never saw anything like that in September. I never saw such cars in my youth.
