in ages versus for ages

In a Grammar quiz I have found two similar sentences,with different answers.
1) I haven't seen Tim in ages.
2) He's been living in Italy, for ages.(ref www,esl.about.com)
Can't I say "I haven't seen Tim, for ages??Many Thanks!!!

Can't I say "I haven't seen Tim, for ages? Yes, you can say that. I'd omit the comma.
But you can't say

I haven't seen Tim in ages sounds much more natural to me.

Usually,

has/have ... for ages
has/have not ... in ages

though both may take 'for'.
