in 3 years

"I will do that in 3 days" means that if today is Monday, I will do that on Thursday. However, I think the meaning of "in 3 years" is different in the following sentence: "assume that the interest rate is
10 percent per year and that I am to receive $1100 next year and $2662 in 3 years."
If this year = 2014, what does it mean by "in 3 year"? Does it mean "I will receive 2662 in 2015, 2016, and 2017" or "in 2016, 2017, and 2018"? Thanks in advance!

"I will do that in 3 days" means that if today is Monday, I will do that on Thursday. Probably. But the expression leaves it a bit unclear whether or not Monday counts as day 1.

Thanks very much for your answer. I always hear that native speakers say something like "I will do something in x minutes/hours/days/years". Could you tell me whether "today" counts as min/h/d/y 1? Thanks in advance!

In my experience, such expressions can sometimes be unclear.
Consider this example.

A garage is open from 7 am to 6 pm every day.
I take my car there at 7 am on Monday. The mechanic says that it will take him two days to fix it.
