improve/pick up

Hello,
One of the meanings of "pick up" is "to improve/get better". We can definitely say "Trade/Business picks up in the summer.", but "improve" used instead of "pick up" wouldn't sound as good, would it?

Gene93 but "improve" used instead of "pick up" wouldn't sound as good, would it? It's just as good, but not as jazzy. CJ
