Improvement (in) and development of

Do I need the preposition "in" after the word "improvement" in the following sentence?

This exhibition will contribute to improvement in and development of science technology.

"Science technology" is something I cannot understand.

This exhibition will contribute to improvement in and development of science technology.
I guess it depends on what you mean. Both prepositions are commonly used with both nouns. "In" goes better with "improvement," but "of" means about the same thing.
