Both? As in "improve" or "develop"? Or as in "ability" or "skill"?

Your post is sending a mixed message. The header and the body do not agree what the question is.

I feel sorry for that,CJ.

While I was writing the subject,I meant improve and develop. But, while I was writing the sentence I must have lost my concentration. (It was a very long day at work; I should have kept the question for today.)

I'm not sure that bringing in the idea of 'existing mark' and the relationships to it are the best way to contrast "improve" and "develop". "to improve" is simply to make better. Whatever the student's current abilities, they will be better if the student "improves". "to develop" involves more work on the part of the teacher.
