improve (vt., vi.)

Hi,
The two following sentences comes under two different sections of a paper.
"The results of the study revealed that 12–03 am nap improves significantly (pvalue= 0.008), among other psychomotor driving skills, the speed and movement prediction (ZBA Test) compared to 06–03am nap."

"The results of our study showed that, among other psychomotor driving skills, speed and movement prediction (ZBA Test) improved in 12–03 nap group compared to 03–06 group."

In the first sentence, I used "improve" as a transitive verb while in the second, I used it as intransitive verb. Is that OK?

Thanks!
