Impression

My impression of Mr X is good.

My impression on Mr X is good.

Please explain the difference between the two sentences.

What is the meaning of the expressions "get the impression" as in " I get the impression that....."

and "give the impression" as in " This place gives me the impression that..." ?

Hi Deb, I can't think of any sentence that would use 'impression on' in that way. Your second sentence isn't correct--only the first one which means that Mr X has some qualities that I find good. I think maybe you are confusing the use of impression with a sentence written this way: When i met Mr X for the first time, he made a good impression on me.
