No because 'impress upon (transitive verb) what was facing them (D.O)' does not work at all.

Mister MicawberNo because 'impress upon (transitive verb) what was facing them (D.O)' does not work at all.
Now I can see:
impress (transitive verb) + what was facing them (Object) + upon all three of them (prepositional phrase)
