For the subject stated, it depends on how you determine the meaning of leisure time or the level how you are tired, naturally you do not want to read or anything but just want to lay down and have some rest. If you are little tired but still have energy to know some thing new, you may want to read for change.
First of all every person might need rest for mind off to clear up the brain and to stress out. If your mind is constantly occupied with something, the stress would be accumulated without your notice and possibly cause mental disease. In this complex society, people need time for mind off such as yogi, boxing, meditation or just stare candle flame and think nothing. This depends on each persons interest and physical condition, some require these everyday while others require every weekends or every months. You might get board resting during all the leisure time, in this case your stress is not accumulated and better to do something active.
I think spending for activities during spare time is good for the change than just resting. In this case, I can be more energetic and the energy can be used for work. However, you have to rest when you feel you need to. One of my friends loves playing something, we went to ski even after she got over night work and her condition was no well. I could not believe her but she just crazy for playing. Some rest definitely required for her instead of ski.
In conclusion, you naturally know what is the best for your leisure time.
