Does "implicit marking out" in the following text mean "indirectly leaving marks on"?

This kind of temporal writing or implicit marking out of public space is perhaps best exemplified by Alys’s 12-hour film Z´ocalo , which is set in Mexico City’s eponymous main square: the ‘nerve centre of the capital’ that has served frequently as the artist’s ‘theatre of operations’, not least since he lives close by. Between sunrise and sunset the film documents the movement of citizens in relation to the tall flagpole at the heart of the Z´ocalo, which is constituted of a vast paved terrain, flanked by government, civic and commercial buildings. It begins with the ceremonious raising of an enormous red flag and ends with the descent of this national emblem as dusk falls. The film observes, from a fixed camera angle, how pedestrians in the Z´ocalo make use of the long, straight shadow cast by the flagpole as a form of shelter from an unforgiving sun, where none is offered elsewhere in this massive square. So, an ever-shifting, single-file line of shade-seekers effectively gives human form to the ‘hand’ of this accidental ‘sun-dial’ as it gradually creeps its way round the square over the course of a day. This ‘place of sanctuary’ produces a kind of ‘irregular order’ – a temporary stillness – amidst the random criss-crossings of pedestrians occurring in the rest of the Z´ocalo
