I don't know. What was the context? How was she trying to "strong-arm" him? Does she not already know the accomplice? Does she want him to say he's innocent and the other guy is responsible?

As I read it, it sounded she wanted him to say someone else was responsible (and not him) -- but perhaps she wanted him to say who the accmplice was. Without knowing the context, I can't say for sur
