Impede

Hello,

is it correct to say:

"His parents impede him by not giving him a chance to develop his interests" ?

Have I used "impede" correctly?

Thank you

I wouldn't use it that way. I think of impeding as a more active thing. There have to be obstacles slowing progress, not factors slowing growth.

I beleive it's correct, though I never found an example on impede with a human object..

Consider these:
His parents impede his progress by not giving him a chance to develop his interests.
