Would you that the N-grams surprise you a bit? I mean, I did not think that impassive would be more in use than emotionless or expressionless.

I think of i mpassive and expressionless as roughly synonymous. I'm not surprised that emotionless is less common. You can look at someone and see that they are i mpassive or expressionless , but you can't really see that someone is emotionless.
