Immigration from European countries and Asian countries to Australia over the period 1940 - 1998

The line graph shows how many people moved to Australia from European countries and Asian countries over the period 1940 – 1998.

From the illustration we can see clearly that overall, there was an upward trend in the migration from two sections to Australia.

As can be seen clearly, the population of European immigrants was higher than of Asian immigrants.

In 1940, the number of migrants from European nations was 100,000 people, compared to just a little over zero who was from Asian nations. Over the next three decades, the figure rose dramatically for the migration of European countries, but unchanged and even went down to zero for Asian countries. The gap of the number of immigrants between two regions was extremely wide in this period (about 500.000 persons). In stark contrast, from 1970 to 1990, the feature was stable for European countries, but soared sharply for Asian countries. The reminder of the period saw the community of European and Asian increase. By 1998, the quantity of European migrant people was 600,000 and it was 100,000 higher than of Asian migrant people.
