Hi
Please help me with this.
The Children came out of the school. The policeman stopped the traffic immediately.

Which of these is better?

The policeman stopped the traffic as soon as the children came out of the school.
Or 
The policeman stopped the traffic immediately after the children came out of the school.

Please tell me what you think of the sentences I have given.

The exercise required me to use 'as soon as' and still one student used 'immediately after' which sounded a little odd to me in the context.

I don't see anything wrong with 'immediately after', though 'as soon as' is probably more common.
