Dear teachers,

Is there any difference between IMITATE and COPY in the following sentences?:

Childrem often imitate/copy their parents

Children often imitate / copy what they see in the films

She worries that Jim will imitate / copy his brother and leave home.

His children imitate / copy spoiled children and swear all the time

Thank you in advance

Hi

my impression, as I have been taught, is that to imitate is to do it from memory-retained visual experiences; i.e one has seen it before/previously and then can do it in the same or almost the same way - - hence imitate; to copy would mean direct copying from a currently visualised model - i.e. copy from the blackboard.

Hope that helps -
