Grammar

Imitable

-Some people would say 'this is the first/second/third time I do/did something', but their English is not imitable/should not be learned/is not to be learned/is not learnable/is not worth learning.

I discussed grammar with my friends, but I didn't know a good expression for the meaning; are they all natural English?

Hi - This is the second time I crashed the car That's very nearly OK, though I'd probably put "I've" instead before the verb If something's not imitable then, usually, it means it is done so well that no one else is able to copy it If something is not learnable, it usually means people find it too complicated So I'd rule those two out, given your context, but the other three are OK I think Dave

Do you think there's a difference in grammar between 'the first time that' and 'the second/third time'?

Come to think of it, when 'it's the first time' is used, something has just been done, which entails 'first time I have done', not 'I did'; but when 'the second/

Hi

I think you're right, but I shall have to think about it. If I have two photos of car crashes, I might say:

- This is the first time I crashed the car
- This was the second time

Interesting - I will get back to you
