Imagery Question

Hi, a member here kindly pointed out that my initial use of "brought to life" clashed with the image of instruments being tools. After scratching my brain for a day or so, I thought this might be a good solution. Does enchanted work better, as it implies that the musician is entirely in control and not that the instruments have lives of their own?

"There was something magical, I thought, in the way that instruments could be enchanted, and used as tools to create music."

"enchanted" doesn't work very well for me there, unless you actually are describing a fantasy world or magical world, which I think is not the case. I don't personally have a problem with "brought to life".
